![]() ![]() Very strange Apple!!īut thank you HWTech for the speedy reply and the helpful links -) Even the dialog window when I tried to install the downloaded installer said, "Select the disk where you want to install the OS X software." The disk I wanted to install it on was the "Untitled" disk, but the dialog should have said "Select the disk where you would like to launch the installer software that will in turn install the OS X software (Note: the location to install the installer software that will install OS X cannot be on the target disk for the OS X software itself)". So naturally, when I wanted to install it on a spare drive, I attempted to install it there but it appears that the installer installer cannot be deployed that way, hence the grayed out drive when trying to specify where to install the software. So again the instructions are VERY misleading. similarly, step 5 is titled "Install the Mac OS Installer" when you are actually installing the installer that then installs the Mac OS X installer. the problem is, even in the instructions, the title of step 4 is "Download OS X El Capitan" when you are actually downloading something 2 degrees of separation from OS X El Capitan, namely, the installer that installs the installer for OS X El Capitan. I was also following the instructions found at the second link. Otherwise, it'd be pretty darn affordable for its value at least for me.Thank you for your response!! those are the links from which I had downloaded the installer. Even if Apple ends up supporting eGPUs, those are too expensive and might be bottlenecked :/ I just don't wanna pay for all the RAM and SSD space upfront. But it's not upgradeable, only up to 16GB RAM, and you can't install a GPU in it. Last attempt before taking out the original HDD.Īnd yeah, I wanted an M1 Mac Mini. Even just having them open it up and find ![]() Yeah, my Dad's been using the iMac and we took it to two stores, and it costs ![]() Is it possible to install Mac OS X on a PC? Apple did switch to Intel CPUs at one point. I also have some usb drives, and I might have the Mac OS X installation disc(s) lying around somewhere. Any help would be much appreciated.īut how can I format my HDD into Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) without a working Mac computer? I only have two Windows laptops and an Ubuntu PC (Zorin OS Lite, XFCE). I don't think I can do internet recovery either because it's too old of a machine. Anyone know what I can do to install Mac OS back onto my mac without taking it apart again to take the hard drive out? So I put my new hard drive into my mac and every time I try to load recovery mode, command r, shift command r, option command r, shift option command r, d, c, command d, option d, I've tried loads of combinations for things I've seen online to try and format the hard drive while in the mac as if i load it normally I just get a flashing question mark on a folder in the centre of the screen. So I've taken out the 2tb 7200rpm 3.5inch hdd and i was going to put in my 1tb 2.5 inch hdd, but my external hard drive enclosure snapped before i had the chance to install mac os x on it. How to install mac os on new hard drive? So my iMac is old, and the hard drive is failing. I've been told this could be bad GPU solders, HDD failure, maybe the screen itself or its LED light is broken. ![]() And when it finishes, it's just a blank screen. Sometimes they're lightīlue and pinkish-white. The iMac's screen shows thick vertical stripes. Or how can I install Mac OS X on a usb drive without a Mac and then try to boot on the broken iMac with it?Īlso, can this HDD get damaged in any way by putting it in a broken iMac? Tutorials only show how to physically put the HDD in the iMac, not the disk formatting part. Or do I need to format it as a Mac HDD beforehand? If I put an HDD in the iMac as is (it has an Ubuntu OS on it), will the iMac let me format it and install Mac OS X? ![]()
